Professional licensing is a key role of the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (DFPR) and until recently, it was a paper process that flowed through mailed correspondences. The agency had long desired to automate the system and Illinois' digital modernization effort helped to move that process along.
In less than a two year period, DFPR transitioned from a paper-driven workflow to 100 percent of renewals and certificates becoming available online, 82 percent of initial applications online and the mobile enablement of all interactions.
Secretary Bryan Schneider commented, "We will save almost $800,000 or more, just on getting rid of mail and printing."
